Neuhaus Chocolate

Neuhaus is another popular of Belgian chocolate brand. It was Established in 1857 by ambitious Swiss pharmacist, Jean Neuhaus, who had left his home town of Neuchatel and set up shop with his brother-in-law in the Belgian capital, They opened their "first pharmaceutical confectioners" at 25-27 Galerie de la Reine, Europe's first covered shopping gallery, using chocolate to make palatable medicines such as cough sweets, liquorice for stomach complaints and a bitter Belgian chocolate bar.

Jean's son, Frederic took the company in another direction. Applying his experience as a baker the business changed course, and in 1895 the pharmacy, now called Confiserie et Chocolaterie Neuhaus-Perrin, became the premier chocolate shop in town, selling sweets, jellies and chocolate bars.

After Frederic's death in 1912, his son Jean Neuhaus Jr took over the expanding and extremely successful business. This success, allowed Jean the time to follow a creative path and after much experimentation with a technique was developed, for producing filled chocolate, which jean named the "Praline". Neuhaus has been renowned for its pralines ever since.

Neuhaus will always be known for it pralines. The Horta, Satan, Sapho, Madian are just a few of the delicious pralines available. As well, Neuhaus produces premium chocolate bars, tablets and ice cream.
